The impending winter storm is set to begin across the south-central U.S. on Friday.

Missouri officials are urging residents to prepare for extreme cold and possible snow this weekend as a winter storm approaches the region.

The major storm is set to hit starting on Jan. 23 and will stretch into the weekend, spreading snow and ice from the southern Plains to the Northeast.

More winter weather is expected to hit New Jersey this weekend, with projections in some areas calling for well over a foot of snow before the storm is done.
